Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman, Amir of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan, voiced strong criticism against the commercialization of education in Pakistan, emphasizing that over 27.5 million children remain out of school. His comments were reported by ARY News on Sunday, shedding light on the deep-rooted issues facing the nation’s educational system.
During his address, Hafiz Naeem noted that the current education system has become a business venture, depriving 90 percent of the population of access to quality learning opportunities. He highlighted the startling fact that only 2.5 million students are able to continue their education beyond the intermediate level, showcasing a significant gap in the system.
“The commercialization of education has created a widening divide, leaving millions of children without the opportunity to pursue meaningful education,” Hafiz Naeem stated, while calling for an urgent overhaul of the education sector. He urged the government and policymakers to prioritize reforms and introduce skills-based learning programs for the country’s youth, which he sees as a crucial step towards bridging the educational disparity.
Hafiz Naeem also expressed concern over the lack of infrastructure for skill development, revealing that fewer than 3 million children are currently enrolled in skill-based programs. He argued that investing in such initiatives would not only improve educational outcomes but also equip students with practical skills needed for employment and self-sufficiency.
Criticism of Israel and Solidarity with Palestinians
In his address, Hafiz Naeem also touched upon international issues, notably condemning Israel for the ongoing violence against Palestinians. He cited the martyrdom of over 42,000 Palestinians as a testament to the continued oppression and aggression by the Israeli regime. He called for a global boycott of products supporting Israel, emphasizing the need for international solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
“Rising opposition to the Israeli regime’s policies is evident within Israel itself,” Hafiz Naeem said, referring to ongoing protests against Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s administration. He stressed the importance of standing with the Palestinian people in their struggle for justice and urged the global community to take action against human rights violations in the region.
Hafiz Naeem’s comments come at a time when both domestic and international issues are at the forefront of public discourse. His address serves as a call to action for comprehensive educational reforms in Pakistan and solidarity with global movements for justice.
