HEC and KMU Aim to Enhance Educational Excellence

The Executive Director of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr Zia Ul-Qayyum, has underscored the need for sustained efforts to elevate Pakistan’s global standing in the health and education sectors. Speaking at a ceremony organized by the Quality Enhancement Cell of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Dr Zia stressed that higher education is pivotal for the country’s socio-economic development.

The event, held to bolster quality assurance mechanisms across KMU’s affiliated and constituent institutions, focused on extending the university’s quality enhancement practices. These measures, originally aligned with HEC’s Quality Assurance Agency guidelines, are now being implemented in KMU’s medical, dental, nursing, and allied health sciences institutions.

Dr Zia called for a collaborative approach to quality assurance, urging stakeholders to consider it a shared responsibility rather than a mere obligation imposed by HEC. “Quality assurance is not just a procedural requirement; it is a collective mission that demands ownership and commitment from all stakeholders,” he remarked.

The Executive Director emphasized the unique societal role of medical institutions. “Healing others is a perpetual act of charity, and KMU graduates should exemplify this principle,” he stated. Dr Zia also highlighted the importance of adhering to the Quality Assurance 2023 Policy, urging affiliated institutions to align their academic programs with the parameters defined by HEC.

The ceremony showcased KMU’s dedication to enhancing academic and operational standards across its institutions. By strengthening its quality assurance framework, the university aims to produce graduates who not only meet national benchmarks but also contribute to improving Pakistan’s international reputation in health and education.
