HEC Opens Applications for Prestigious Research Awards 2024

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has announced the opening of applications for the prestigious “Research Awards 2024” for Pakistani researchers and scholars.

The deadline for online applications is December 17, 2024, at 11:59 PM. These awards aim to honor excellence in research, intellectual contributions, and advancements in social welfare, while promoting high-impact publications. Award winners will receive a certificate and a cash prize.

The awards will be given across three major disciplinary categories: Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities, Law, Education, Management, or Public Policy; Physical Sciences, Engineering, Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, or Mathematics; and Life Sciences, Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Agriculture, or Veterinary Sciences.

Key award categories include:

  1. Best Researcher (Cash Prize: Rs. 500,000): This award recognizes researchers for their outstanding work that has significantly contributed to intellectual and social development. It is open to lifetime achievement or single publications with substantial impact.
  2. Best Young Researcher (Cash Prize: Rs. 500,000): This award is for early-career researchers under 40 who have shown exceptional promise in driving research forward, addressing social challenges, and advancing the quality of research in Pakistan. Both past contributions and potential for future impact are considered.
  3. Best Publication Award (Cash Prize: Rs. 1,000,000): Awarded for a publication (book or journal article) that has the greatest potential to positively influence human welfare, open new research avenues, or address critical issues in Pakistan and globally. This award highlights works with a lasting impact on research and socio-economic development.

Applicants eligible for both the Best Researcher and Best Young Researcher categories may only apply for one.

General eligibility requirements include:

  • The applicant must not have been blacklisted by HEC or received the same award previously.
  • The applicant must comply with HEC’s plagiarism policy.
  • The applicant must have been a resident of Pakistan for at least three years as of January 1, 2024, or at least one year for certain publications.
  • Publications must be scholarly books or journal articles, not older than three years as of January 1, 2024, with no more than three authors, all of whom must meet residency criteria. Research articles must be published in an HEC-recognized W-category journal and have at least 100 citations.

All applications must be submitted through the HEC portal at research.hec.gov.pk. Applicants must complete all sections of the online form and upload the required documents in PDF format. For more details, please visit the HEC website or contact the relevant department.
