The Institute of Business Management (IoBM) marked a milestone in Pakistan’s academic journey with the third International Conference on Education (ICE 2024), held on December 7, 2024. Spearheaded by IoBM’s Education Department within the College of Economics and Social Development (CESD), the two-day event explored cutting-edge educational practices under the theme “Educational Revolution from Gen-Z to Gen-Alpha.”

Notable personalities included Chief Guest Mr Mohammad Abbas Baloch, Secretary of Boards and Universities for Sindh’s Education Ministry, alongside prominent international and local educationists such as Mr Carl Lander of the Council of British International Schools (COBIS), Dr Athar Mahmood of Al-Kawthar University, Dr Sarala Thulasi Palpanadan from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia, and Shehzad Roy, renowned education activist and founder of Zindagi Trust.
IoBM President and Conference Patron, Mr Talib Karim, underscored the urgency of evolving teaching techniques to resonate with Gen-Alpha learners immersed in technology. Dr Nadia Ayub, Dean of CESD, welcomed attendees and described ICE 2024 as a pivotal step towards enhancing educational quality in Pakistan.
Mr Abbas Baloch emphasized the importance of an education system responsive to global challenges. Mr Carl Lander provided insights into generational learning differences, advocating for a balance between technological integration and human connection. Dr Sarala highlighted AI’s transformative potential in reshaping educational methods, while Dr. Athar Mahmood offered a historical overview of societal progress and its implications for modern learning.
Shehzad Roy called for renewed efforts to inspire students to consider careers in teaching, describing educators as architects of national progress.
Other luminaries included Dr Nasir Mahmood, Vice Chancellor of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU); Ashique Hussain, Additional Director of DCAR Sindh; Dr Aftab Ahmad Shaikh of the Sindh Education Policy Commission; Dr Renato Peneluppi from Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) China; and Dr Mark Lipton of the University of Guelph, Canada.
ICE 2024 served as a vital platform for addressing the dynamic needs of Gen-Alpha students, with discussions focused on leveraging AI, redefining teaching methodologies, and embracing global educational innovations. The conference set a promising trajectory for elevating Pakistan’s academic standards to meet the demands of a rapidly globalizing world.
