The 18th two-day International Conference on Open Source Systems and Technologies (ICOSST-2024) concluded successfully at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore. Organized by the Al-Khwarizmi Institute of Computer Science (KICS), the event attracted researchers, academics, industrial experts, and professionals from across the globe to discuss advancements in open-source systems and technologies.

The conference opened with a ceremony attended by Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Engr Waseem Nazir and concluded with Executive Director of Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan Prof Dr Zia-ul-Qayyum as the chief guest. Both dignitaries emphasized the transformative role of open-source software in modern industries, highlighting its applications in communication networks, inventory systems, and personal productivity tools.

This year’s ICOSST brought together over 200 researchers from countries including Pakistan, China, India, Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia, among others. The Technical Evaluation Committee ensured the conference maintained its high standards by accepting only top-tier research papers. Key topics included Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Big Data and Cloud Computing, Robotics, Blockchain, and the Internet of Things (IoT).

Renowned speakers from major universities in Pakistan, Canada, Malaysia, Estonia, the USA, Qatar, and China enriched the event with their insights. The conference featured engaging panel discussions, an exhibition of technological advancements, and student competitions, fostering an environment of collaboration and innovation.

UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Munir welcomed the guests, praising Dr Waqar Mahmood and the KICS team for organizing a successful conference. “ICOSST continues to be a beacon of knowledge sharing and innovation, promoting the critical role of open-source technologies in shaping the future,” he remarked.

As the curtains fell on ICOSST-2024, the conference reaffirmed its commitment to fostering global collaboration and advancing open-source research, setting the stage for even greater achievements in the years to come.
