The protesting students were of the view that they cannot be deprived of their democratic and constitutional rights under any circumstances. The management of the varsity has cancelled admission of several students which should be reinstated.

They said that IJT would oppose the unjust policies and education-hostile decisions of the political Vice-Chancellor (VC) imposed on the university.

While addressing the protest, IJT leader Wasiq Rafiq said that the Pakistan Peoples Party has imposed an incompetent VC on DUET on political grounds. Instead of creating a knowledge-friendly environment for students, education-hostile decisions are being made for them. IJT has a history, and throughout its history, it has been recognized as a service-oriented organization for education in the country.

IJT Karachi Nazim while addressing the crowd said that it is a matter of great sorrow that the youth, who should have been busy in their education at this time, are today protesting for their basic rights. Their fault is that they are the students of the DUET, and the Sindh government is currently walking on an anti-education agenda.

He said that the PPP want to make political appointments in universities across Sindh. He demanded that students’ admissions should be reinstated immediately. Revengeful actions against students should be stopped. Education activities at the DUET should be restored above political interests.

He also demanded that transportation issues should be resolved immediately. Fee increases should be rolled back. The political VC should be immediately removed.

The protesting students warned if these issues are not resolved, their next protest will be at the Ministry of Education and the Chief Minister’s House.
