Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology (SSUET) Karachi marked a significant milestone by celebrating International DNA Day IBPB 5.0. The event, hosted by the Biomedical Engineering Department, saw an impressive turnout of students, faculty members, and distinguished guests.

The occasion was graced by Prof Dr Mir Shabbar Ali, Dean of the Faculty of Civil, Environmental, and Architecture Engineering (FoCVE&Ar), and Siraj Khilji. Acting Vice Chancellor Dr Munawar Hussain delivered an inspiring keynote address, emphasizing the transformative impact of DNA research. He urged the nation to leverage the potential of genetic studies for societal advancement, highlighting the importance of integrating scientific discoveries into practical applications.

The event was inaugurated by Registrar Cdre (R) Syed Sarfraz Ali, who underscored DNA Day’s pivotal role in advancing genetics, medicine, and biotechnology. Attendees were treated to a series of insightful presentations from experts in the field. Among them were Assistant Director Afsheen Tariq of the Pakistan Scientific and Technological Information Centre (PASTIC) and Dean Kashif Ali of SZABIST. Their discussions focused on the latest developments in genomic therapies and the broader landscape of scientific innovation.

“Today, we gather to recognize the groundbreaking discovery of DNA’s double helix structure and the profound impact it has had on modern science and medicine,” said Dr Munawar Hussain. “This event not only celebrates past achievements but also inspires future advancements in genetics and biotechnology.”

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of genetics, genomics, and biotechnology. Engaging with experts and learning about the latest advancements, attendees also had the chance to network with like-minded individuals, fostering a collaborative environment for future scientific endeavors.
