The Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (IPS) at Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) has achieved a significant milestone by obtaining approval from the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to launch Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs in four key disciplines: Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmacognosy, and Pharmacy Practice.

Dr Huma Ali, Principal of IPS, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of the new programs in strengthening the institution’s reputation. “The launch of these PhD programs at IPS-JSMU is a milestone that will further establish our reputation as a center of excellence in pharmaceutical education and research,” she said. “We are excited to provide our students with the opportunity to pursue cutting-edge research and contribute to the advancement of the pharmaceutical field.”
The approved faculty members for the respective PhD programs are:
Pharmacology: Dr Humaira Siddiqui, Dr Noor-ul-Ain, Dr Samiullah Burki, and Dr Shafaque Mehboob Khan. Pharmaceutics: Dr Huma Ali, Dr Shaheen Perveen, Dr Yousra Shafiq, and Dr Fozia Israr. Pharmacognosy: Dr Huma Shareef, Dr Shahlla Imam, Dr Bushra Hina, and Dr Sumira Ishaq. Pharmacy Practice: Dr Sdaf Naeem, Dr Sakina Fatima, and Dr Hina Rehman.
JSMU has assured the HEC Quality Assurance Division (QAD) that any changes in the faculty for these PhD programs will be promptly communicated. This development marks a new chapter for IPS-JSMU, positioning it as a leading hub for pharmaceutical education and research in Pakistan.
