IRCOH-2025: Uniting Experts to Combat Global Health Threats

The University of Sargodha successfully hosted the Interdisciplinary Research Conference on One Health (IRCOH-2025), drawing national attention to pressing global health challenges under the theme “Connect, Collaborate and Translate One Health Research for a Sustainable Future.”

The two-day conference brought together a diverse group of researchers, academics, and policymakers to address critical issues such as antimicrobial resistance, climate resilience, public health, diagnostics and surveillance, and sustainable animal production systems.

A major highlight of the event was the inauguration of the Interdisciplinary Research Center for One Health, a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting cross-sectoral research to tackle health challenges at the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health. The event also marked the launch of the One Health Lab, established under the Belt and Road Initiative, and the formation of the Pakistan One Health University Network—a new platform connecting universities nationwide to advance One Health research.

The event was graced by distinguished dignitaries, including Prof Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), who commended the university’s efforts. “This conference is a significant step towards promoting interdisciplinary collaboration, which is essential for resolving complex health issues in Pakistan and beyond,” he stated.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Qaisar Abbas emphasized the transformative potential of interdisciplinary research, noting the University of Sargodha’s commitment to driving scientific innovation and sustainable development. “Our initiatives are aligned with global priorities and reflect our leadership in One Health research in Pakistan,” he said.

Prof Dr Zafar Hayat, Principal of the College of Agriculture, introduced the newly launched Interdisciplinary Research Center and outlined the goals of the Pakistan One Health University Network, highlighting the importance of integrated academic efforts across institutions.

Prof. Dr. Ihtesham Ur Rehman, Director of the One Health Center, called for the establishment of similar interdisciplinary centers across the country to foster collaborative responses to emerging health threats.

Echoing these sentiments, Prof Dr Ahmad Raza Bilal, Director of ORIC, emphasized the critical role of research partnerships between academia and society in shaping a resilient, sustainable future. He extended gratitude to the esteemed guests and participants for their active engagement.

With participation from prominent scholars and vice chancellors of leading universities across Pakistan, the conference served as a dynamic platform for dialogue, knowledge sharing, and the formulation of strategies to address global and national health challenges.

The University of Sargodha, through IRCOH-2025, reaffirmed its position as a hub for interdisciplinary innovation and a leader in the national One Health movement.
