Despite reassurances from Dr Akbar Nasir Khan, the Inspector General of Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) Police, several educational institutions in the federal capital have opted to shut down amid rising security concerns. Dr. Khan, in a video message posted on the capital police’s social media platforms, urged educational leaders to maintain regular schedules, assuring them that the security situation in the federal capital is currently stable.

However, the response from educational institutions has been cautious, with many opting to suspend physical classes and shift to online learning. The International Islamic University (IIUI), for instance, has announced a temporary closure from January 23 to January 26. Prior to this, Bahria University, Air University, and National Defense University (NDU) had already declared an indefinite shutdown.

In contrast, Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU) has decided to reopen on Wednesday, rescheduling exams originally set for Monday and Tuesday to the following Saturday. The Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA) has recommended private schools to enhance their security protocols. Moreover, it has been confirmed that schools throughout the federal capital will remain operational.

The Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) has issued a similar statement, emphasizing the importance of maintaining regular activities. Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Islamabad has debunked a circulating notice claiming the closure of educational establishments, markets, and commercial banks as fraudulent.

The security situation remains tense, with educational institutions weighing the assurances from law enforcement against the perceived risks. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and efforts are underway to address concerns and ensure the safety of students and staff in the federal capital.
