In a decisive move to maintain academic neutrality and discipline, Islamia College Peshawar (ICP) has imposed a strict ban on all political attire on its campus. The administration issued an official notification on Wednesday, prohibiting students from wearing clothing, caps, or badges bearing any political party’s symbols.
The notification, signed and approved by the Vice Chancellor, mandates that all students must strictly follow the college’s official uniform or approved dress code. It explicitly states that no student will be allowed to display political affiliation through their clothing while on campus.
In addition to the dress code, the directive bars politically affiliated students or organizations from interacting with the Vice Chancellor’s Secretariat. This measure, the administration claims, is intended to keep academic operations free from external political pressures and distractions.
The circular has been distributed to all Heads of Departments (HoDs), with clear instructions to display the notice on departmental boards for immediate and strict compliance.
This development has sparked conversation among students and faculty alike, with opinions divided between those supporting the depoliticization of academic spaces and those raising concerns about freedom of expression.
Islamia College Peshawar, a historic institution with deep cultural and political roots in the region, appears to be setting a new precedent in campus governance — one that prioritizes academic focus over political identity.
