In a remarkable effort to support the educational aspirations of financially challenged students, Islamic Relief Pakistan has awarded scholarships totaling over 4.7 million rupees to deserving students at the University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (UAJK). The scholarships were distributed during a ceremony at UAJK’s City Campus, underscoring Islamic Relief Pakistan’s ongoing commitment to education in the region.

The event was graced by the presence of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi and Dr Riaz Ahmed, Regional Manager of Islamic Relief Pakistan. A total of 22 students received scholarship cheques, marking a significant milestone in the university’s mission to provide opportunities for all.

In his address, Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi expressed deep appreciation for Islamic Relief Pakistan’s generous support, which he described as crucial for enabling students to overcome financial barriers and continue their education. He emphasized the transformative impact of these scholarships on the students’ lives, thanking Islamic Relief Pakistan not only for their contributions to education but also for their broader role in relief and rehabilitation efforts, particularly following the 2005 earthquake. Dr Abbasi called for the continued partnership between UAJK and Islamic Relief Pakistan, recognizing the importance of sustained collaboration in uplifting the community.

Dr Riaz Ahmed, Regional Coordinator of Islamic Relief Pakistan, highlighted the organization’s dedication to empowering UAJK students. Over the past three years, Islamic Relief Pakistan has provided scholarships worth over 9 million rupees to nearly 60 students at the university. He expressed pride in continuing this initiative, noting that the current scholarships are intended to fully support the educational endeavors of the 22 recipients. Dr Ahmed also touched on Islamic Relief’s broader mission, which includes efforts in poverty alleviation and youth skill development, in addition to their focus on education.

The scholarship recipients voiced their heartfelt gratitude to both Islamic Relief Pakistan and UAJK, acknowledging the critical role these scholarships play in allowing them to pursue their academic dreams without the weight of financial hardship.

Sardar Mujeeb Zafar, Director of Students and Financial Aid at UAJK, also extended his thanks to Islamic Relief Pakistan. He expressed optimism that these scholarships would enable students to focus entirely on their studies and achieve academic success.

The ceremony concluded with a token of appreciation, as Vice-Chancellor Dr Muhammad Kaleem Abbasi presented a commemorative shield to Dr Riaz Ahmed, recognizing Islamic Relief Pakistan’s steadfast support of AJKU students. The event, attended by university officials, faculty members, and representatives from Islamic Relief, highlighted the strong partnership between the two institutions in their shared commitment to advancing education and uplifting the community.
