Top Five Universities To Study Mechatronics Engineering In Pakistan

Mechatronics is a widely popular and emerging discipline of engineering and technology. It is multidisciplinary branch of engineering that deals with electrical and mechanical systems, including a variety of electronics, robotics, control, telecommunication and product engineering. Mechatronics is now being offered as an area of specialization for graduate, post-graduate and doctoral degree programmes in universities all over Pakistan. Advanced research in the field of mechatronics, robotics and artificial intelligence is also underway, where various research laboratories and R&D institutes are engaged in exploring new avenues and prospects in this challenging discipline.  To help you understand which universities are best for studying mechatronics engineering in Pakistan, we have compiled a list that will help you get to the top of the mechatronics game.

NUST College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (CEME), (B.Sc., MS and PhD)

NUST was established in 1991 as the first model university established by Ministry of Science and Technology on the lines of world-renowned KAIST in Korea. NUST is also ranked among the top 500 universities of the world by the QS rankings. NUST College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering offers Bachelor, MS and PhD degree programmes in mechatronics. The programmes allow students to transform their virtual conceptions into real-time applications and systems and helps them in designing and controlling products, including automated machines and robotic systems. The programme allows students to develop a strong command over engineering principles and allows them to understand the underlying dynamics of advanced industrial processes and tools including boilers, compressors, turbines, PLC and microcontroller-based control systems. NUST is probably the best place in Pakistan to begin the educational journey in mechatronics.

University of Engineering and Technology (UET) LAHORE (B.Sc., M.Sc. and PhD)

The University of Engineering and Technology is one of the pioneer engineering universities of the country and specialists in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). UET offers undergraduate, graduate and doctoral degree programmes in mechatronics and control engineering. Department of Mechatronics and Control Engineering (MCE) was established in 2005 and the degree programme is accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council. The programme aims to develop in-depth knowledge and understanding of design analysis and functionality of mechanization systems, addressing the needs of technology-centric industries in the country.

Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Institute of Science and Technology (SZABIST), Bachelor of Engineering (Mechatronics)

SZABIST is regarded as one of the leading engineering higher education institutions of the country. The four-year (BE) undergraduate programme is accredited by the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC), with seven stars from Chartered Inspection & Evaluation Committee (CIEC) Sindh, one of the leading world class rating organisation. The programme is designed in accordance with the international mechatronics curricula and consists of 46 courses with an aggregate of 140 credit hours. The varsity contains state of the art laboratories and provides internship opportunities to students willing to work in leading mechatronics-specialized organisations and industries.

Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology (KIET), (BE)

Karachi Institute of Economics and Technology (KIET) also offers undergrad degree programme in mechatronics. The programme focuses on the designing and developing automated systems (robots), teaching students the basics of controlling and building cutting-edge robots and applications, through experts involved in automotive, manufacturing and pharmaceutical industries. BE mechatronics is a unique multi-disciplinary degree that links mechanical engineering with robotics, artificial intelligence, electronics and computer control, in order to develop and design industrial mechanisms and processes. The programme offers 135+08 credit hours, along with mandatory completion of two internships and one Senior Design Project.

Air University (BE, MS, PhD)

Air University is a public sector university and was established by Pakistan Air Force (PAF) in 2002, as a civilian university. It is also ranked among the top ten engineering universities of the country. The Mechatronics Engineering Department was established by the varsity in 2003 and offers bachelors, masters and doctoral degree programmes. The degree centres on robotics, industrial automation, intelligent energy systems, mechatronic system design and sensors. These degree programmes allow learners to develop an efficient and reliable automated system by combining the principles of computing, electronics and mechanics.
