IUB International Linguistics Conference Concludes

An International Conference on Linguistics and Literature jointly organized by Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) and the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan concluded at the university on Thursday. The three-day IUB International Linguistics Conference was attended by over 100 delegates, including scholars from Turkey, Indonesia, Thailand, France and Pakistan.

IUB Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Aamir Ijaz was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony. Addressing the attendants, he said southern Punjab was rich in cultural heritage and had always enjoyed the patronage of scholars who contributed to the land by giving their due share.

Envisioned in 1925 and established in 1975, the Islamia University of Pakistan stands as a symbol of rich educational heritage and grace of the region. The rapidly growing university, which has been working for years for the educational and socio-economic betterment of the people of the region, is going to reach another milestone by organizing the 3rd International Conference on Linguistics and literature.

Professor Dr Mamuna Ghani, the dean of IUB Faculty of Arts and conference focal person said the forum provided an educational platform for interaction to national and international delegates, researchers, scholars and experts in the field of linguistics and language teaching.

“Through oral and poster presentations and plenary speakers’ talks, the conference provided our academic staff, indigenous scholars and postgraduate students exposure to the latest research achievements made in the field,” she added.

Dr Ghani said the conference was an exciting opportunity to build academic relationships and explore possibilities and capabilities of research collaborations, long lasting cooperation on national and international levels.

The papers presented at the conference will be published in the journal of Linguistics and Literature. The conference remained a great opportunity for young researchers to get invaluable exposure to foreign and local studies done in the field of linguistics, besides learning the application of theoretical knowledge in linguistics and English language teaching.
