The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) marked International Day Against Gender-Based Violence. UN Women launched a sixteen-day awareness campaign on gender-based violence every year from November 25 (International Day Against Gender-Based Violence) to December 10 (International Human Rights Day). It is a global campaign against gender-based violence that draws the attention of women’s rights activists to this important issue.

Like every year, this year too, the Department of Gender Studies and Women Development Center in collaboration with the Department of Political Science, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur started this global campaign on November 25 at the opening ceremony at the Faculty of Arts building. Dean Faculty of Social Sciences Prof Dr Rubina Bhatti and Prof Dr Syed Musavir Hussain Bukhari Chairman Department of Political Science and Coordinator Center for Peace and Conflict Resolution inaugurated this campaign. Senior teachers, students Department of Gender Studies, Department of Political Science and Department of Public Administration participated in it with great enthusiasm. All the students carried banners against gender violence in their hands.

Ansir Abbas officially started the event by speaking about the importance and awareness of this day. He scheduled his activities regarding the importance of these sixteen days. He also said that there will be an awareness walk on November 29, a panel discussion on December 1 and a poster/slogan writing competition on December 9. The lecturer will also give awareness about the types and prevention and conduct a campaign.

Dr Sarfraz Batul, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, said that the family plays a very important role in raising children in any society. Prof Dr Syed Musavir Hussain Bukhari, Chairman, Department of Political Science, said that in Islam religion, not only women, but the entire humanity has been emphasized on respect and dignity. Prof Dr Rubina Bhatti highlighted the impact of gender-based violence on human life and said that we have to end not only physical violence but all forms of violence. With the help of effective state policies we can get rid of the hideous problem like violence.

In the end, Prof Dr Syed Musavir Hussain Bukhari appreciated the efforts of the teachers of the Department of Gender Studies, Dr Shahzad Mahmood, Assistant Professor, Dr Shahzad Mahmood, Lecturer, Hasnat Ahmad, Lecturer, Sabatin Yasir, Lecturer and all the teachers, students and students of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. Special thanks to Prof Dr Rubina Bhatti, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, who specially participated. Finally, an awareness walk was also conducted in the building of the Faculty of Arts.
