IUB marks World Heritage Day

A seminar was organized by the Archaeology Department and Culture and Heritage Research Center Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) on World Heritage Day.

On this occasion, Prof Dr Shazia Anjum, Prof Dr Aftab Hussain Gillani, Dr Samia Khalid, Dr Khalil Ahmad, Dr Zia ur Rehman, Dr Mazhar Hussain delivered exclusive talks. They said that World Heritage Day, also known as the International Day for Monuments and Sites, is a significant occasion celebrated on April 18th every year to raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage and the need for its preservation.

World Heritage Day plays a vital role in raising awareness of the importance of cultural and natural heritage sites and their preservation. It encourages people to take action to protect these sites, celebrates their universal value, and promotes international cooperation to ensure their continued existence for future generations.

The speakers appreciated the efforts of the Culture Heritage Research Center and Department of Archaeology to promote the Heritage and Culture of this region. It is important to mention here that the Department of Archaeology was established in the IUB at the direction of Prof Dr Athar Mahboob,  Vice Chancellor to explore archaeological sites of the region, particularly the seven thousand-year-old Hakra Civilization buried in the desert of Cholistan. The IUB has already started a project in this connection at a location in the Cholistan Desert۔ The University is also maintaining a collaborative program with Cambridge University UK and two scholars Muazzam Khan Durrani and Waqar are working on digital mapping of archaeological sites of the region.
