A two-day Higher Education International Conference (HEIC 2023) was organized by the Department of Educational Training, the Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB).

The quality of teaching and research in achieving the 17 goals of sustainable development was discussed in this conference held on the topic of the role of higher education in the goals of sustainable development.

Inaugurating the conference, Prof Dr Athar Mahboob, Vice-Chancellor said that the participation of local and foreign experts in the conference organized on this most important topic will help in the implementation of long-term development goals in higher educational institutions. He said that the strengthening of higher education institutions is very important for social development and regional and international integration. University faculty and researchers can offer solutions to pressing issues through collaboration with civil society, industrial and commercial organizations, other sectors and the general public. He said that various universities have included SDG’s in their institutional policy. A sustainable and environmentally friendly green campus is very important for a university and its surrounding society and universities can play a positive role in society by implementing it.

Prof Dr Irshad Hussain, Dean Faculty of Education, IUB said that the purpose of this conference was necessary for the implementation of sustainable development goals given by the United Nations. In this regard, experts presented research papers on related topics and exchanged observations and experiences with each other. The recommendations obtained at the conference will be conveyed to the policy makers.

Prof Dr Javed Iqbal, former Principal Quaid-e-Azam Medical College (QAMC), Bahawalpur, said that education is not only important for individual development, but also for national and global development. Countries with strong education systems rank among the top nations. Individual character building is essential and our teachers can inculcate these moral values in students.
