The Islamia University of Bahawalpur (IUB) organized Inter-Universities Consortium on “Climate Change, Sustainability and Conservation”

The consortium was based on the vision of the Vice-Chancellor IUB Engr. Prof. Dr Athar Mahboob who always emphasizes the crucial role of universities beyond knowledge production in resolving the core issues of society and people. In addition, the objectives of this event were aligned with the vision of Prof. Dr Shazia Anjum, Dean Faculty of Sciences and the patron of this consortium to train the students to serve the community for building a better world.

The Vice Chancellor Dr Athar Mahboob said that in the first phase of response to the climate call, IUB has successfully launched the intra- university plan of action. Following this agenda, IUB has taken several initiatives to reflect the climate-smart practices on campus. In brief, the varsity is not only teaching the knowledge and skills to fight against climate damage but also providing sustainable solutions to the issue. The Green Campus Project, IUB ensures environmentally responsible practices in all dimensions of its activities. It includes relevant curriculum, on-campus demonstration of eco-friendly ethos, awareness campaigns to keep students well informed and well sensitized about sustainable acts and their environmental responsibilities.

Since climate change is a global challenge that does not respect any borders, nothing can be fruitful in isolation. It is an issue that requires solutions that need coordination with and within institutes besides the national level. In a vow to fulfil this requisite, IUB has organized a two-day inter-universities consortium to develop support, cooperation, and connection among Pakistani universities. It is aimed to synthesize and advance scientific knowledge in the area of climate, sustainability, and smart conservation by linking scientific and policy analysis and providing state-of-the-art solutions to global and national climate change policy challenges.
