JSMU inks MoU with JPMC for Family Medicine Residency Training Programme

Jinnah Sindh Medical University’s Institute of Family Medicine (IFM-JSMU) on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Center (JPMC) with an aim to introduce a Family Medicine Residency Training Programme for the Fellow of College of Physicians and Surgeons (FCPS) residents.

The MoU was signed between Acting Vice Chancellor JSMU and Executive Director JPMC Professor Shahid Rasul, Dean of Medicine Professor Masroor Ahmed, and Chairperson Institute of Family Medicine-JSMU Professor Marie Andrades.

As per the MoU, IFM-JSMU will work with Dean Postgraduate JPMC for FCPS trainees’ clinical rotations at JPMC. The residents will also receive a stipendiary amount from JSMU during the course of their training.
Acting Vice Chancellor JSMU and Executive Director JPMC Professor Shahid Rasul said that JPMC is pleased to support and provide clinical rotation to the residents of the Family Medicine Residency Training Programme developed by IFM-JSMU. It’s the first-ever such program in the public sector in Pakistan.
Through this agreement, JPMC will facilitate the FCPS trainees of Family Medicine by providing them specialties’ rotation in different departments, as specified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP).
Chairperson Institute of Family Medicine-JSMU Professor Marie Andrades appreciated the support extended by JPMC in introducing the postgraduate fellowship training in order to produce Family Medicine leaders for the country for primary care.
Dean of Medicine Professor Masroor Ahmed credited the efforts of Acting Vice Chancellor Prof Shahid Rasul and Chairperson IFM-JSMU Prof Marie Andrades. He further said that this initiative can meet the shortage of primary care physicians and provide community-based healthcare service in the country.
