University of Karachi (UoK) and International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT), Rahim Yar Khan on Monday. The agreement intends to promote cooperation between the institutions, offering analytical facilities for research purposes in synthetic organic and natural product chemistry.

UoK-ICCBS Director Prof Dr M. Iqbal Choudhary and KFUEIR Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Engr Athar Mahboob signed the agreement in a meeting held at Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research (PCMD), University of Karachi. KFUEIT Head of the Department for Chemistry Dr Munawar Hussain and a few officials of the international centre were also present in the meeting.

This agreement owned some important collaborative activities, including conducting joint research and development projects, providing analytical facilities to research students who were enrolled under the co-supervision program of ICCBS and KFUEIT, organisation of lectures, symposia, international meetings, conferences, workshops and exchange of information, teaching materials, technological and scientific publications etc.

On the occasion, Dr Iqbal Choudhary said ICCBS at the University of Karachi was one of the most eminent centres of excellence and was also one of the finest academic research establishments of chemical, biological and biomedical sciences in the developing world.

ICCBS imparted higher learning with highest quality research training to its students in frontier fields of science and technology, he said, adding that it was striving to contribute in fulfilling the needs of quality manpower in science and technology, producing graduates that will serve the nation and humanity at large. Choudhary said ICCBS was the only institution in Pakistan which was not only certified by ISO but was also ‘UNESCO’s Centre for Excellence Category-2 Institute’.

Prof Athar Mahboob said KFUEIT struggled to become a world-class university of engineering and information technology and aimed to contribute significantly in the development of regional economy, uplifting the local community in order to make them a powerhouse of intellect, along with human capital generation. He said this agreement would develop linkages between academicians and researchers.

It is pertinent to mention here that this agreement will be effective for a period of five years from the date of signing.
