The Karachi Medical and Dental College (KMDC) has recently declared a significant surge in its MBBS and BDS program fees, exceeding 150%. This development follows the release of an official notice from Dr Nargis Anjum, the principal of KMDC, which was approved by the college’s governing body led by Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab.
According to this notice, the open merit admission fee has risen from Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 50,000. Additionally, there’s been a substantial increase in tuition and library fees, now at Rs. 117,600 (previously Rs. 50,000) and Rs. 10,000 (up from Rs. 3,500), respectively.
Other fee adjustments include the student activity/social fee, which has gone up to Rs. 10,000 from Rs. 8,000. KMDC has also introduced new charges, including a development fee of Rs. 30,000, a laboratory fee of Rs. 10,000, and an IT fee of Rs. 5,000.
Remarkably, the merit seat fee has escalated to Rs. 268,600, a significant jump from last year’s Rs. 101,500. The self-finance section has also seen a rise in admission fees, now at Rs. 100,000 compared to the previous Rs. 20,000.
Tuition fees have doubled, from Rs. 600,000 to a steep Rs. 1.2 million. Transport fees have also increased, moving from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 36,000. Notably, the self-finance seat fee, which was Rs. 651,500 last year, has experienced a major hike, currently standing at Rs. 1,421,000.
