KU Announces Admissions In MPhil, PhD, MS And MD Program 2019

University of Karachi Registrar Professor Dr Saleem Shahzad has announced admissions in MPhil, PhD, MS and MD Program 2019. Admissions for the year 2019 are available in various departments of faculty of arts and social sciences, faculty of science, faculty of law, faculty of medicine, faculty of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences, faculty of management and administrative sciences, faculty of education, faculty of Islamic studies and other institutes and centers of Karachi University.

According to the registrar, admissions are available in departments of Arabic, Criminology, Economics, English Literature, English Language Teaching and Applied Linguistics, History, International Relations, Islamic History, Library and Information Sciences, Mass Communication, Persian, Philosophy, Political Science, Psychology, Sindhi, Social Work, Sociology, Urdu, Agriculture and Agribusiness Management, Applied Chemistry and Chemical Technology, Applied Physics, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Computer Science, Food Science and Technology, Genetics, Geography, Geography, Geology, Health, Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Microbiology, Physics, Physiology, Statistics, Zoology, Education, Special Education, Teacher Education, Quran and Sunnah, Usooluddin, Islamic Learning, Pharmacognocy, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Practice (MPhil), Pharmacology (HEJ), Public Administration, Business Administration, Commerce, and Law (PhD only).

The admissions are also available in MS and MD (Nephrology) in Faculty of Medicine, while admissions would also be given in Dr A. Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering (Biotechnology-KIBGE), Dr Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine (Molecular Medicine), HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry (Chemistry-HEJ), Institute of Sustainable Halophyte Utilization (Botany-ISHU), Marine Reference Collection and Resources Center, National Nematological Research Centre (Nematology), National Centre for Proteomics (Biochemistry-NCP), Institute of Space and Planetary Astrophysics (ISPA), Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies (Women’s Studies), Institute of Marine Science, Institute of Environmental Studies, Centre for Plant Conservation, Pakistan Study Centre and Shaikh Zayed Islamic Research Centre.

The KU Registrar informed that candidate seeking admissions in MPhil and MS (with course work ‘terminating degree’), must have at least 16 years of studies (MA, MLIS, MSc, MBA, BBA [four-years], MAS, MCom, BS [four-years], B-Pharm, Pharm-D, MBBS, BDS, DVM, BS/BE Engineering) or equivalent qualification with at least second division in the relevant field from an Higher Education Commission recognized university/institution. However, he mentioned that candidates with MBBS, BDS, DVM or equivalent qualification would be required to successfully complete 15-Credit Hour courses (300-600 level) before undertaking MPhil courses (700 level).

Professor Dr Saleem Shahzad also informed that for taking admission in MS (Surgery) and MD (Medicine), candidates having MBBS/BDS or equivalent qualification from a recognized university should have one year house job experience with valid PMDC Registration.

According to him, for PhD program, degree holders of MS (Surgery) and MD (Medicine) are eligible for admissions in PhD subject to the fulfilment of the completion of deficiency courses prescribed by Departmental Research Committee (DRC) of concerned department.

Meanwhile, he said candidates having MPharm, MPhil, MBA, (with four year BBA), LLM (applicable only for Faculty of Law) or its equivalent qualification in the relevant field from an HEC recognized university are entitled to apply.

Professor Dr Saleem Shahzad further added that admissions would be granted on the basis of test and interview to be conducted by the respective DRC in accordance with the instructions given in the Admission Prospectus-2019.

Entrance Test Form (ETF), Fee Voucher and Admission Prospectus-2019, could be downloaded from the Karachi University website (www.uok.edu.pk) from June 10 to 18, 2019. He advised to carefully read and fill the ETF and submit Rs4,500/- processing fee (non-refundable) in the banks (situated in the University of Karachi) through fee voucher.

The KU Registrar added that candidates were required to submit ETF and paid fee voucher slip in the respective departments latest by June 18, 2019. Meanwhile, candidates for PhD (Law) and MS/MD, would deposit Rs10,000/- fee (non-refundable) in the School of Law and Advance Studies and Research Board, KU, respectively before the deadline.

Professor Dr Saleem Shahzad clarified that Karachi University Entrance Test 2019 is mandatory for candidate and list of eligible candidates for appearing in written test would be put on display at the KU website on July 02, 2019. Candidates eligible for the Test would be required to collect Admit Cards from July 03 till 12, 2019 from respective departments, centers, and institutes. The Entrance Test would be held on Sunday, July 14, 2019 at 10am and candidates are advised to report at 09:30am at their respective test centers. Candidates must bring Admit Card and original CNIC, whereas the list of successful candidates would be announced on KU website on July 31, 2019.
