The University of Karachi and the National Institute of Maritime Affairs signed the memorandum of understanding to strengthen the bilateral cooperation in the maritime domain and promote education and foster joint efforts in the area of research.

The KU acting vice chancellor Professor Dr Nasira Khatoon said that the ocean is the largest ecosystem in the world which is of utmost importance for the survival of human life. She further said that oceans are also a great source of income for human beings and they have a responsibility to protect them.

Meanwhile, the Director General NIMA Vice Admiral (R) Abdul Aleem expressed that both the KU and NIMA would learn from each other experiences and said that this agreement will not only enhance bilateral collaboration but will also play an important role in promoting joint activities, exchange of information, experts and researchers in for furtherance of areas of the mutual interest.

The Chairman KU Department of International Relations Dr Naeem Ahmed hoped that this MoU would help in studying the geo-strategic dynamics of Indian Ocean affairs. He observed that the ocean is a different world and to get acquainted with it, it is necessary to learn and understand from the experiences of those who are already working on it.

The DG NIMA Vice Admiral (R) Abdul Aleem and the Chairman KU Department of International Relations Dr Naeem Ahmed inked the MoU documents at the VC Secretariat on Thursday.

The Director NIMA Karachi Commodore (R) Ali Abbas and its research team along with the faculty members of the IR department were also present on this occasion
