KU pays rich tribute to Mohsin-e-Pakistan Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan

The former vice chancellor of the University of Karachi Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui said that we need to write books on the life and services of the Mohsin-e-Pakistan late Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan to inform the generations to come about his achievements, desire to serve our motherland, his determination to make the country to become a peaceful nuclear state and improve the standards of education and living in Pakistan.

Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim observed that today we can look into the eyes of the whole world and no one can abuse us because Dr A. Q. Khan had devoted his entire life and successfully completed the nuclear project.

The former KU VC Professor Pirzada Qasim was addressing the reference meeting held in the memory of Mohsin-e-Pakistan Dr A. Q. Khan, which was organized by Dr A. Q. Khan Institute of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering University of Karachi at its Jinnah Auditorium on Monday.

“The late Dr A. Q. Khan had set a goal and in achieving this goal he had to face many problems and difficulties but he did not back down from his objectives. We need to build self-confidence instead of relying on others, the best example of which is the life of Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan.”

Professor Dr Pirzada Qasim Raza Siddiqui further said that the one of main objectives of Dr A. Q. Khan was to promote teaching and research culture among the young generation. He was striving for a knowledge-based society and his efforts in the field of education and health are also commendable.

He mentioned that in our country only 1.5 percent of GDP is allocated for education while only one percent is allocated for health and education sectors and they are the seventh priority of our government which is a matter of concern at the moment.

On the occasion, the KU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Khalid Mahmood Iraqi said that Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan was not only the creator of Pakistan’s nuclear program but also a great scientist and compassionate man who advocated the advancement of knowledge and lit a beacon for the people.

“Dr A. Q. Khan was well versed in the art of building and nurturing institutions. Despite the difficulties, he achieved his goal and he had sacrificed a lot of things for Pakistan. Despite many problems and difficulties in his life, I have never seen him disappointed. He had made Pakistan a nuclear power with his tireless work, the late was the greatest scientist of Pakistan and will always be remembered.”

Meanwhile, Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan was a noble and honest man and had unconditional love for the country. He has worked for the betterment of the education and health sector in all corners of Pakistan which many people are unaware of.

He informed the audience that Dr A. Q. Khan was a renowned nuclear scientist, but he also used to write suggestions in letters to the governments about the projects and ideas which could bring betterment to Pakistan’s economy.

Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan said that Dr A. Q. Khan always promoted research and development and instructed students to have full access to lab equipment.

The Director General KIBGE Professor Dr Abid Azhar said that Dr Abdul Qadeer was a man of knowledge, a friend of literature, and philanthropist. He proved that respecting the little ones enhances one’s dignity.

“Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan will always be remembered as the hero of the nation. After Quaid-e-Azam, no one has received such public acceptance as Dr A. Q. Khan. Apart from making Pakistan’s defense invincible, he had established many institutions in the country, one of which is KIBGE located in the University of Karachi.”

Another speaker, the Dean Faculty of Medicine, University of Karachi, Professor Dr Faiyaz H. M. Vaid said that Dr A. Q. Khan was a very loving and compassionate man. The ex-DG KIBGE Professor Dr Hassan Mujtaba Naqvi said that Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan’s personality was not one-sided but he was a multi-faceted personality. He has done a lot for this country and all of us because of which we are breathing a sigh of relief today.
