KU welcomes new ICCBS M.Phil and Ph.D students

The International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences at Karachi University on Tuesday welcomed 70 new students of ICCBS M.Phil. and Ph.D. Programme-2021.”

ICCBS Director Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary while addressing the orientation class held for the new students of M. Phil. & Ph.D. program-2021 in the Prof. Salimuzzaman Auditorium. A large number of students, research officers, and faculty members attended the orientation class.

Prof. Iqbal Choudhary said that science was one of the oldest disciplines that helped our understanding of the world around us. Our strong and true understanding about the universe was the result of scientific research and experiment.

He informed the new researchers, “The center is unique to have a triple honor of UNESCO, WHO and OIC Center of Excellence. This has also received Islamic Development Bank prizes for best science institution in Islamic world.”

The ICCBS, along with its two major wings Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research, and Hussein Ebrahim Jamal (HEJ) Research Institute of Chemistry, is serving to industries and government agencies, he said, adding that many units focusing on areas of national needs were established such as virology, genomics, clinical research, and industrial analytical center.

Prof. Iqbal Choudhary welcomed all the students of the new batch-2021 to the internationally famous doctoral program, and said that ICCBS owned a single largest 100 percent merit-based doctoral program in the country with over 600 PhD students, including foreign students from different countries of the world.

It is pertinent to mention here that as many as 70 admissions have been given in various disciplines of sciences, which included Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Bio-Organic Chemistry, Pharmacology, and Molecular Medicine.

Students now will be able to carry out their researches in two internationally famous research centers including H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry, and Dr. Panjwani Center for Molecular Medicine and Drug Research.

Prof. Dr. Khalid M. Khan, Prof. Dr. Farzana Shaeen, Prof. Dr. M. Raza Shah, Prof. Dr. Syed Ghulam Musharraf, Prof. Dr. Zaheer Ul-Haq Qasmi, Dr. Maqsood Ahmed Chotani and others also spoke on the occasion.
