Laraib Abid, a Pakistani social worker, founder of MASHAL and lecturer at the University of Punjab (PU), has won the award for her novel idea in a competition organized by The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health (GI), with support from Bayer. The competition ‘120 under 40: The New Generation of Family Planning Leaders’ recognizes and highlights the achievements of the next generation of family planning leaders worldwide. 120 Under 40 shines a light on the “positive disruptions” made by young leaders for a healthy family.

The initial selection for the competition was announced in Women Deliver Conference Canada organised on June 6-9, 2019, in Vancouver. More than 8,000 participants from 165 different countries came to Vancouver to advance the cause of gender equality and health-related rights of girls and women. Women Deliver 2019 was also part of a global dialogue with more than 100,000 people engaging worldwide via satellite events. These young leaders participated in different ways throughout the conference; starting with the regional performance at the pre-conference event in which they participated and showed the culture of their region.
