National University of Modern Languages (Numl) students also protested a day earlier against on-campus examinations. The protest intensified when negotiations between students and university administration failed.

Students later staged their protest at Faizabad near Khayaban-e-Johar Metro Station and suspended the metro service cutting off communication between the  twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad for a brief time period. Murree Road was also closed by the students of Arid University.

Moreover, students of nine universities protested and staged a sit-in outside the Governor’s House in Lahore on Monday, demanding to conduct online exams as universities remained closed throughout the year amid coronavirus.

The protesting students expressed their fear that conducting papers on-campus could ruin their academic year and force them to pay the semester fee again. Students later called off the protest till Friday (January 22).
