The Vice Chancellor of the Sindh Agricultural University Dr. Fateh Mohammad Murree has said that livestock sector can play an important role in economic development.
The country’s economy can be changed through agriculture and livestock, he said, adding that Red Sindhi Cattle is the best breed of cow in the country. Many countries including Brazil and Australia are getting benefits from the same bread.
Addressing the concluding ceremony of a two-month training program on livestock organized for the local youth to alleviate poverty, Dr. Fateh Mohammad Murree said that a coin was found from 5000-year-old historic Mohenjo Daro on which the photo resemblances to Red Sindhi cow breed.
He said that according to the data given in the budget of the federal government, the economic growth rate is 3.9 percent. Analytically it will increase to 6 percent in the next 12 years. The change is only related to the development of agriculture and livestock.
On the occasion, National Rural Support Programme Regional Manager Ghulam Mustafa Jamro said that the youth benefiting from this training program would not only be able  preventing diseases in the cattle, but they would start to earn more. Through this program, we will provide technical assistance to the people in the backward areas on the importance of livestock, their care and benefit to alleviate poverty.
Razia Panhoor, a representative of the Pakistan Poverty Elevation Fund said that in those areas where there are no veterinary hospitals or doctors, there is a lot of concern about diseases in livestock which causes a lot of damage to people, while livestock is now an industry.
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ismail Kanbhar said that people are now facing difficulties in marketing of livestock, milk and meat. This problem should be addressed at earliest.
