Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif has introduced the CM Internship Climate Resilient Leadership Program, aiming to foster environmental awareness and leadership skills among the youth.

Additionally, she directed that 1% of all development project funds be allocated toward tree plantation initiatives, reinforcing her government’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
A significant highlight of the program was the increase in the intern stipend from Rs 25,000 to Rs 60,000. Maryam emphasized the importance of job security and career pathways for interns, stressing that these environmental internships carry a key responsibility in building a greener and sustainable Punjab.
The Chief Minister called for collective efforts to tackle smog, advocating for collaboration between Pakistani and Indian Punjab to address cross-border environmental challenges. Furthermore, she urged educational institutions to launch smog awareness campaigns between October 15 and November 15, emphasizing the importance of public education on pollution.
Maryam Nawaz took the opportunity to criticize previous governments for their environmental mismanagement, stressing the need to treat environmental protection as a national duty. She also highlighted the province’s commitment to humane practices, announcing stricter measures against animal cruelty.
On air quality, Maryam provided details on various ongoing initiatives to monitor and control pollution, such as targeting emissions from brick kilns, industrial sites, and fat-melting factories. She underscored that sustainable infrastructure development is essential for Pakistan’s long-term progress.
Speaking at the event, Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb discussed new environmental projects, including the launch of a vehicle inspection system and the implementation of comprehensive climate strategies, reaffirming Punjab’s leadership in climate action.
Several provincial ministers and officials were also present at the ceremony, showing the government’s united front on environmental policy.
