The school, which is expected to be completed within a year, aims to offer a comprehensive learning environment for children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The project is a pioneering effort by the provincial government to address the educational and developmental needs of autistic children.

During the inauguration ceremony, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stressed the urgent need for autism experts to be involved in the planning and execution of the project. She directed relevant authorities to ensure that the design and operations of the school adhere to international standards for autism care and education.

“This initiative is a testament to our commitment to providing every child, regardless of their abilities, with the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive,” said Maryam Nawaz. “Children with autism deserve empathy and understanding, and we must build a society that offers them the care and support they need.”

The proposed two-floor building will house 21 classrooms—11 dedicated to younger students and 10 to older ones. The ground floor will include 10 cubicle speech session rooms, a therapy room, a pre-vocational training room, and dedicated spaces for daily living activities. A computer lab and other essential facilities will also be part of the design to promote skill development and independence among students.

The first floor will feature three additional classrooms, a multi-purpose hall, a committee room, a library, and a resource room. The building’s architecture also allows for future expansion, with the potential to add two more floors as the school grows.

The Chief Minister emphasized that this project is only the beginning, highlighting the need for more educational facilities for children with special needs across the province and the country. She expressed hope that this school would serve as a model for similar initiatives in other regions, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities for children with autism.

Maryam Nawaz’s initiative has been met with widespread appreciation from advocacy groups and parents of children with autism, who have long sought government intervention in this area. The establishment of this school is seen as a major step toward creating a more inclusive educational environment for all children in Pakistan.

The government’s efforts to build this facility signify a growing recognition of autism and other developmental disorders as crucial public health and education issues that require targeted interventions. With this project, Pakistan joins a global movement toward enhancing the quality of life for children with special needs through education, therapy, and community support.
