She expressed her desire to give scholarships to students instead of petrol bombs. She lamented that the youth who were handed petrol bombs are now languishing in jails, having been incited to attack the police and blindly believe whatever they saw on social media. Those who were misled are now behind bars.
Maryam Nawaz said her father, Nawaz Sharif, served the country for 45 years but was disqualified over an Iqama. She added that she was punished for standing by her father during difficult times.
She remarked that the decision in the 190-million-pound case has come out today, and corruption in the Al-Qadir University Project Trust (AQUPT) case has been proven. She accused Imran Khan of being the first Prime Minister to be caught red-handed stealing and the first one to be convicted of corruption.
The Chief Minister noted that after today’s verdict, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) witnessed an uptrend. She recalled her own time in Adiala Jail, where she and Nawaz Sharif were once imprisoned. Cameras were installed in her cell, and only one meal a day was provided. However, she said, the positive aspect was that she lost weight. She added that while the individual now in jail is receiving good food and other facilities, they have no objections to it.
Maryam Nawaz announced that Al-Qadir University has been taken into public custody and now falls under her management. She assured that scholarships would also be given to the students of Al-Qadir University.
It is worth noting that the accountability court sentenced 14 years of imprisonment and a fine of 10 million rupees in the Al-Qadir University Trust case for corrupt practices and embezzlement. Additionally, Bushra Bibi was sentenced to 7 years in prison and fined 5 million rupees for aiding in the crime.
