  • Salman Rafique confirms organised racket involved in leak of question paper

Following the confirmation of leaking of medical and dental colleges admission test (MDCAT) 2017 exam papers and the subsequent cancellation of results by the Lahore High Court (LHC), the University of Health Sciences will conduct the test again on October 29.

Candidates will be allowed to resit the exam against previously issued roll number slips and without submitting additional fees.

The LHC passed the cancellation directives on Friday as it heard a petition filed by a number of students who sat the test. The petitioners alleged that the UHS staff had purposefully leaked the examination paper before the test, making way for ineligible candidates to clear the test through unlawful means.

They had sought the court’s directions for declaring the test null and void. The court also considered a investigation report submitted by the Punjab government.

Earlier on Thursday, October 5, Minister for Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Khawaja Salman Rafique had held a press conference and admitted that an organised racket was indeed involved in leaking the exam papers.

“The investigations, conducted so far, have revealed involvement of an organised racket having close links with some of the doctors, non-doctors and renowned academies that offered services for preparation of the entrance test,” the minister said. He said UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Junaid Safraz Khan had been asked to go on leave in order to investigate his role in the issue.

Rafique added that Punjab chief minister was considering the constitution of a high-powered commission to analyse medical and dental colleges’ admission test system and make it transparent and subservient to merit.

The entry test was attempted by more than 65,000 candidates at 28 test centres established across the province. The candidates are vying for a spot among 3,405 MBBS seats in 17 public medical colleges and 216 BDS seats in three public dental colleges in Punjab.
