Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training (MoFEPT) Rana Tanveer Hussain and Sindh Minister of Education and Literacy (SELD) Syed Sardar Shah have said in a joint press briefing in Karachi that the series of consultations will continue while maintaining coordination to prepare the curriculum. Now the curriculum will be introduced as the National Curriculum of Pakistan instead of Single National Curriculum. They expressed these views while briefing to media persons after a program organized in connection with education reforms, national curriculum and teacher training and development program at a local hotel in Karachi.
On this occasion, Rana Tanveer Hussain said that curriculum of Pakistan would be implemented in consultation with all the provinces. ‘Sindh’s stance has not only been recognized in relation to the preparation of the curriculum, but guidance has been taken on many issues’, the Federal minister said and acknowledged that the concept of one book in the whole country was incorrect. The minister praised and thanked the Sindh government for working together on important national issues.
He also said that children’s education has been affected due to floods and assured that, all possible support would be provided to Sindh government for the restoration of education activities in the affected areas.
Syed sardar Shah said that Imran Khan, the then prime minister, imposed Single National Curriculum in 2018 without going through the constitution whereas under the Eighteenth Amendment, education is now provincial subject. Sardar Shah said that it is necessary that the provinces should be governed under the constitution and their position should be respected so as to strengthen the federation. The minister said that Sindh and Balochistan had similar stance on the issue of mother tongues.
He praised that the federal government endeavor to frame curriculum for minorities is a timely step. ‘It is need of hour that we teach our children about our region and events,’ Shah said and added that we agreed that English, mathematics, computer science and English will be taught under one curriculum, while the provinces will have their own curriculum for remaining subjects.
While answering the questions on this occasion, Provincial Education Minister Syed Sardar Shah said that today the Federal government has acknowledged the stance of Sindh government what we had been saying for past four years. To a question, the provincial education minister said that no compromise had made as far as transparency was concerned in teacher recruitment policy, Provincial Education Minister Sindh Syed Sardar Shah thanked the Federal Minister and agreed to work together in the field of education.
