MUET faculty members write a letter to CM against Search Committee & VC

LinkedIn

While expressing concerns over the Search Committee for the appointment of vice chancellors, senior faculty members and officers of the Mehran University of Engineering and Technology have written a letter to the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, demanding inquiry against the MUET VC Dr Aslam Uqaili who is one of the applicants for the position of VC at Dawood University of Engineering and Technology.

The complaint letter read that several inquiries are underway against Dr. Aslam Uqaili initiated by the National Accountability Bureau, Director General Audit Sindh, and Anticorruption Establishment Sindh over financial corruption allegations of Rs.460.00 million.

They say that Dr Uqaili is involved in illegal appointment of his son-in-law who was involved in corruption scams, availing illegal and undue benefits including foreign tours and honorariums from the MUET accounts. While the VC illegally appointed many teachers and nonteaching staffers in various grades.

The faculty members have also highlighted that there are many cases pending in Sindh High Court against Dr Uqaili. Therefore, the Search Committee shouldn’t recommend Dr Uqaili for the position of VC at DUET.

They appealed the CM that the Search Committee Chairman Dr. Abdul Qadeer Khan Rajput maybe directed to stop illegal efforts for recommending the name of Dr. Aslam Uqaili to become Vice-Chancellor in Dawood Engineering University. Despite Dr Uqaili is involved in mega corruption scams, misconduct, violation of budgetary provisions, moral turpitude, maladministration, and misuse of power.

Ironically, the VC is still misusing powers conducting and chairing syndicate meetings even after facing many cases and inquiries. The findings of the Annual Audit have disclosed irregularities and doubtful expenditure, investments, payments, appointments, irregular appointments made by him. Surprisingly, the Search Committee Chairmanship was a former Vice-Chancellor of the MUET who has called Dr Uqaili for interview. Despite this, the Search Committee Chairmanship is a professor emeritus at the MUET. Now the question is that how a subordinate can conduct an interview with his boss. This would be the worst example of conflict of interest.

The letter reads; “it is talk of the town that Dr. Uqaili has been assured to become Vice-Chancellor of DUET by the Search Committee Chairman who is getting undue benefits from the MUET”. They requested the CM to conduct an inquiry against Dr Uqaili.
