The International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) at the University of Karachi (UoK) hosted its Annual Mushaira in memory of the distinguished scientist Prof Dr Saleemuzzaman Siddiqui. The event brought together prominent literary figures, students, and faculty members in a vibrant celebration of Urdu poetry.
The gathering was presided over by renowned poet and literary personality Firasat Rizvi, while Ms. Nasim Nazish served as the chief guest. Tahir Azeem, a noted literary figure from Bahrain, was the guest of honor. Dr Jafar Askari expertly moderated the session, ensuring an engaging and well-organized poetic symposium.
The Mushaira witnessed an overwhelming response from attendees, including students, scientists, teachers, and ICCBS staff, who participated enthusiastically. A diverse lineup of poets delivered stirring verses that captivated the audience. Among them were Khalid Moeen, Prof Dr Fayyaz Vaid, Noman Jafari, Haider Hasnain Jaleesi, Kashif Hussain Ghair, Zaheer Abbas, Jauhar Abbas, Syed Faizal Mehmood, and Rakhshanda Rahman from Houston.
Speaking on the occasion, Firasat Rizvi highlighted the significance of the annual Mushaira, calling it the largest literary gathering at the University of Karachi and one of the most well-organized Mushairas in the city. The event underscored the deep connection between science and literature, paying homage to Prof Dr Saleemuzzaman Siddiqui’s legacy in both fields.
The ICCBS continues to foster a tradition of intellectual and cultural enrichment, bringing together diverse disciplines and promoting the literary heritage of Urdu poetry through such events.
