A meeting of Board of Governors of Abdus Salam School of Mathematical Sciences (ASSMS) was held at the Government College University (GCU), Lahore under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Asghar Zaidi.
The board issued stern directions that appointments and extensions in contracts should only be made through selection boards as per the law to ensure merit and transparency. The members of board also showed concerns over short nature of contracts and exuberant salaries to faculty members in the past.
Vice Chancellor Professor Zaidi said that ASSMS continued to be the pride of GCU and immediate measures would be taken to strengthen further his administration and faculty. He said that he had visited the school and met the students and would continue to do so.
He added that an advertisement for the three posts of professors for ASSMS were currently under preparation and the professors appointed through this advertisement via the selection board would be initially offered a contract period of three years instead of just one year.
The vice chancellor said that a full time regular director general for the school was also a need of hour and an advertisement in this regard would be issued after the fulfillment of codal formalities. Professor Zaidi said that public universities were run through public money, so every penny should be spent after due diligence and strictly as per the law and regulations.
He pledged towards making the best possible efforts in making the ASSMS, one of the best institutes of the study of mathematics in the world. He referred to current initiatives as a new beginning for the AS school.
