QS World University Rankings has published its subject-wise rankings for 2018, with five Pakistani institutes, including NUST, COMSATS among top 500 universities in the world for studies related to engineering and technology.

The broader study areas included arts & humanities, engineering & technology, life sciences and medicine, natural sciences and social sciences & management. Besides, the QS also ranked universities according to individual subjects. For instance, QS ranked the best universities for engineering and technology, but also ranked them on individual discipline within the categories like electrical and electronic engineering and mechanical engineering.
The Best For Engineering Studies In Pakistan
[infogram id=”1bc7cee2-6226-4d41-8ad4-61709805ad49″ prefix=”55z” format=”interactive” title=””]The Pakistani universities named among the top 500 in the world for broad subject category ‘Engineering and Technology’ are National University of Science and Technology (NUST), COMSATS Institute of Information and Technology, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU), and University of Engineering & Technology, Lahore. NUST is the only Pakistani university, which appears in the overall top 500 universities ranking by QS.
How Pakistani Universities Fared In QS Criteria

It also attained the 251-300 band for its degree programmes in electrical and electronic engineering.
COMSATS was the second best Pakistani university on the list, claiming a place in the 401-450 band. The university scored highly for the number of citations per paper and academic reputation.
LUMS Takes The Fall
LUMS was at the third position among Pakistani universities in engineering and technology, falling in the 451-500 band. However, its ranking was a steep drop from its position in 2017, when it was placed in the 251-300 band for studies in engineering and technology. LUMS received a score of 63.4% for its academic reputation, 67.7% for employer reputation, 57.9% for H-index citations and 46.1% for citations per paper.
QAU was also placed in 451-500 band. QAU, however, has already won a place in the 61-70 band in QS’ 50 Under 50 ranking for 2018. The 50 under 50 list rates the top universities of the world that are less than 50 years old. UET Lahore was fifth among Pakistani universities and placed in the same 451-500 band as LUMS and QAU. UET also dropped in the ranking, as it was in the 251-300 band of the list in 2016.
