The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) in Islamabad recently awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree to Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim during a special convocation at its main campus.

He expressed his gratitude for the warm reception in Pakistan, hoping for stronger ties between the two nations in the future.
Upon receiving the honorary degree, Anwar Ibrahim dedicated the honor to the people of Malaysia, acknowledging the intellectual and cultural connection between both countries. He praised NUST as a hub of excellence in education, research, and innovation.
Addressing the students, he emphasized the importance of self-improvement, drawing inspiration from Iqbal’s philosophy, and encouraged them to see their time at NUST as a stepping stone for shaping both their personal futures and the nation’s destiny.
Rector NUST, Lt Gen (Retd) Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, welcomed the Malaysian Prime Minister and other dignitaries, lauding the Prime Minister’s leadership and achievements. He also noted the potential for academic collaborations between Malaysian and Pakistani universities, including NUST.
The event was attended by key figures such as Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan, Secretary MoST Sajid Baloch, and Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, along with several Malaysian cabinet members. It was also announced that Anwar Ibrahim’s book “SCRIPT for a Better Malaysia” is being translated into Urdu by a Pakistani university.
