The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Centre for Counselling & Career Advisory (C3A) held a successful one-day sensitization training session on the NUST Policy on Protection against Harassment. The training was specifically designed for Female Focal Persons (FFP) from all NUST schools and constituents, aiming to equip them with the necessary skills and knowledge to handle harassment cases effectively.

The primary objective of the training was to familiarize the participants with the policy’s implementation guidelines and their responsibilities as FFPs. Emphasis was placed on the crucial role of the C3A as a Harassment Complaint Cell, highlighting the importance of ethical decision-making in handling such sensitive matters.

Participants engaged in various insightful activities that aimed to enhance their skills and understanding. The training included activity-based experiential learning methods, such as case studies and role plays, allowing participants to practice handling harassment cases sensitively and effectively.

“This training is pivotal in ensuring that our Female Focal Persons are well-equipped to support victims of harassment and uphold the university’s policy on protection against harassment,” said Ms Ayesha Mujeeb, GM of C3A. “By fostering an environment of awareness and preparedness, we aim to create a safer and more supportive campus community.”

The participants found the training highly beneficial, with many appreciating the hands-on approach to learning. “The role plays and case studies provided practical insights that theoretical learning alone could not offer,” remarked one attendee. “It was an eye-opening experience that has better prepared me to handle real-life situations with sensitivity and professionalism.”

The NUST Policy on Protection against Harassment is a comprehensive framework designed to prevent and address harassment within the university. The policy outlines the procedures for reporting and investigating complaints, ensuring that victims receive the support they need, and perpetrators are held accountable.

This training session marks a significant step forward in NUST’s ongoing efforts to promote a harassment-free environment and support the well-being of its students and staff. The C3A plans to continue offering such training sessions regularly, reinforcing its commitment to fostering a safe and respectful campus culture.
