The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) has taken a monumental step towards revolutionizing Pakistan’s medical device industry by signing a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with the Samane Shifa Foundation (SSF). The agreement was formalized by Dr Shahid Noor, Chairman of SSF, and Dr Rizwan Riaz, Pro-Rector (Research, Innovation, and Commercialization) of NUST.

This strategic partnership aims to establish a robust ecosystem for the local production of affordable and high-quality medical devices. By focusing on research and development, technology transfer, and reverse engineering projects, NUST and SSF plan to drive innovation, reduce the country’s dependency on imported medical devices, and significantly enhance the healthcare sector in Pakistan.

The collaboration is set to foster an environment where cutting-edge medical technology can be developed and manufactured locally, ensuring accessibility and affordability for the Pakistani population. The initiative is expected to not only improve healthcare delivery but also create job opportunities and contribute to the economic growth of the country.

During the signing ceremony, the delegation visited several key facilities within NUST, including the National Science & Technology Park (NSTP), the School of Interdisciplinary Engineering and Sciences (SINES), and N-Ovative Health Technologies Pvt. Ltd. (NHTPL). Dr Shahid Noor praised NUST’s commitment to promoting quality education and fostering industrial relationships that drive progress and innovation.

Dr Rizwan Riaz expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “This collaboration marks a significant milestone in our efforts to advance the medical device industry in Pakistan. By leveraging the expertise and resources of both NUST and SSF, we are poised to make substantial contributions to healthcare technology, ultimately benefiting the people of Pakistan.”

The MoA between NUST and SSF underscores a shared vision of a self-reliant and technologically advanced healthcare sector. Both institutions are committed to working together to achieve their goals and pave the way for a healthier future for Pakistan.
