NUST students bag top positions at PEC Capstone Expo 2022

The students of National University of Science and Technology (NUST) bagged top positions in two categories at the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) Capstone Expo 2022 which recorded participation by 35 universities from across Pakistan, with an exhibition of 200 projects.

Students of the School of Civil & Environmental Engineering (SCEE) and College of Electrical & Mechanical Engineering (CEME) participated in the expo. From SCEE, the final year project of students Sikandar Ali Khokhar and Touqeer Ahmed of BE Civil Engineering bagged the 1st position in the category of ‘Civil Engineering & Allied Disciplines’ for their project ‘Bendable Concrete’ that aims at the commercialization of bendable concrete (engineered cementitious composite) for a more efficient and cost-effective alternate of conventional concrete.

The team’s faculty advisor and co-advisor are Dr Rao Arsalan Khushnood and Dr Fawad Ahmed Najam, respectively.

In another win at the expo, the Final Year Project “Smart handheld surgical tool with haptic feedback” by students of CEME also won the 1st position, in the category of Mechanical & Applied Category.

The project of CEME’s BE Mechatronics Engineering students Ahmed Abdullah Nasir, Rameen Sheikh, Rao Muhammad Ahmar Hassan, and Maaha Imran is titled “Smart handheld surgical tool with haptic feedback.”  It is a smart hand-held surgical tool for trainee surgeons to avoid excessive force exertion on the tissue during minimally invasive surgery. The team was supervised by Dr Mubasher Saleem.
