Pakistan’s Religious Affairs Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Egyptian Ambassador Dr Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan agreed on Tuesday to enhance cooperation in religious education and other areas of mutual interest. This development was announced by the Ministry of Religious Affairs following a meeting in Islamabad.

Recently, efforts have been made to boost trade between the two nations by easing visa processes for businessmen, sharing trade information, and fostering private sector connections.
The friendly relationship between Pakistan and Egypt dates back to 1947 when Pakistan’s founder, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, visited Egypt at the invitation of King Fuad II. This historical connection has laid the foundation for continued collaboration and mutual support.
During the meeting, Minister Hussain emphasized Pakistan’s interest in strengthening its relationship with Egypt, particularly in the area of religious education. “Pakistan seeks to strengthen its relationship with Egypt in various areas of mutual interest, including religious education,” he stated.
A significant part of the discussions centered on enhancing the role of mosques as centers of religious, spiritual, and social guidance. Ambassador Hassan shared plans to establish an institution in Punjab affiliated with Al-Azhar University, a prestigious public university in Cairo renowned for Islamic learning. This institution aims to provide religious education to Pakistani students, further solidifying the educational ties between the two countries.
The Ministry of Religious Affairs also highlighted the presence of eleven Egyptian professors currently teaching at the International Islamic University Islamabad (IIUI), showcasing the existing academic cooperation between the nations.
The agreement to enhance cooperation in religious education and other mutual interests marks a significant step in the ongoing collaboration between Pakistan and Egypt, reflecting their shared commitment to fostering deeper ties and mutual development.
