For the third consecutive year, Pakistan has been ranked first globally in the number of Erasmus Mundus scholarships awarded for 2024. A remarkable 189 Pakistani students have secured this prestigious scholarship, highlighting the country’s continued excellence in academic achievement and international educational collaboration.

The Delegation of the European Union in Pakistan organized a pre-departure event to honor the selected students. This year, a total of 2,603 students from 137 countries were chosen for the scholarship program, emphasizing its global reach and competitive nature.

Addressing the audience, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), Dr Mukhtar Ahmed, congratulated the Pakistani students on their selection. He urged them to act as ambassadors of Pakistan, portraying the true image of the country to the world. Dr Ahmed also praised the efforts of EU alumni in guiding the scholars through various aspects of the scholarship process.

Mr Philipp Oliver Gross, Chargé d’Affaires of the Delegation of the European Union (EU) in Pakistan, briefed the audience about the history and evolution of the Erasmus+ Programme. Initially confined to European countries, the program has since expanded globally, enabling more students from around the world to benefit from its opportunities. Mr Gross expressed his pleasure at Pakistan’s consistent success in securing the highest number of scholarships for three consecutive years.

The Ambassador of France to Pakistan also attended the event, commending the HEC’s efforts in enhancing educational cooperation. He highlighted the ongoing collaboration between France and Pakistan on various research initiatives, underscoring the importance of international partnerships in advancing educational and research excellence.

As the selected Pakistani students prepare to embark on their educational journeys across Europe, they carry with them not only the hopes and aspirations of their families and communities but also the responsibility of representing their nation on a global stage. Their achievements serve as a testament to the potential of Pakistani youth and the positive impact of international educational programs like Erasmus Mundus.
