In a landmark move to reshape education in Pakistan, the Ministry of Federal Education (MoFEPT) has joined forces with Khan Academy, signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to integrate the latter’s AI-driven tutor, Khanmigo, into schools. The initiative aims to deliver personalized learning experiences to students, starting with middle schools in Islamabad, according to an official statement released on Tuesday.
The signing ceremony saw the presence of Parliamentary Secretary Farah Naz Akbar and Khan Academy (Pakistan) CEO Zeeshan Hassan. Founded in 2006 by Sal Khan, Khan Academy is a trailblazing non-profit organization committed to providing free, high-quality online educational resources globally. Its mission is to equip students with interactive tools, ensuring equitable access to top-tier education.
As part of the agreement, Khan Academy will train teachers from the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) to effectively implement its AI-powered learning platform. The program will roll out Khanmigo AI and Khan Academy resources across 432 government schools, impacting over 300,000 students. This initiative is set to be a transformative step in Pakistan’s education reforms, offering tailored learning solutions to meet individual student needs.
The Ministry of Federal Education has been actively pursuing innovative strategies to elevate educational standards in Pakistan. This collaboration underscores the government’s dedication to harnessing technology and cutting-edge solutions to improve learning outcomes.
Federal Secretary of Education Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, stating, “We are excited to collaborate with Khan Academy to bring personalized learning to our students. This initiative aligns with our vision to provide high-quality education that prepares students for success in the 21st century.”
With this MoU, Pakistan joins a growing list of nations utilizing Khan Academy’s resources to enhance education. Khan Academy (Pakistan) Chairman Osman Rashid remarked, “We believe every student deserves access to world-class education, and we’re thrilled to work with the Ministry of Federal Education to make this a reality in Pakistan. This partnership marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s education sector, and we look forward to its positive impact on students and teachers alike.”
