In response to the unrest, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar spoke with Pakistani High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Ambassador Syed Maroof, to check on the well-being of Pakistani nationals in Bangladesh. Dar emphasized the importance of ensuring the safety of all Pakistanis, particularly students in Dhaka, and instructed the High Commissioner to maintain close contact with local authorities.

Ambassador Maroof reported on measures taken to protect Pakistanis, including the establishment of a helpline by the High Commission. This advisory and the actions of the High Commission underscore the Pakistani government’s commitment to the safety of its citizens abroad amid the unrest in Bangladesh.

The advisory follows Bangladesh’s announcement on Tuesday to close all educational institutions indefinitely after violent protests erupted over the quota system in public service jobs. Clashes between students and police have resulted in at least six deaths and numerous injuries.

The Education Ministry has ordered the shutdown of high schools, higher secondary institutions, and polytechnic institutes until further notice. The University Grants Commission (UGC) Bangladesh has also announced the closure of all universities and medical colleges indefinitely. Earlier clashes in Dhaka led to the deaths of two people, as confirmed by police inspector Md Bachchu Mia.

The situation in Bangladesh remains tense, with students and authorities locked in a standoff over the contentious quota system. The Pakistani High Commission’s advisory is a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of Pakistani students and nationals during this period of instability.
