Pakistani Students Win Awards at IUMUN

In a remarkable display of talent and intellect, nine Pakistani students emerged victorious in their respective committees at the Istanbul University Model United Nations (IUMUN), held from July 8 to 11. The event, known as Turkey’s largest public speaking competition, featured participation from students across the globe, with the Pakistani team achieving distinguished awards, as per a statement issued by the Pakistan Consulate General in Istanbul.

The team of 13 students, hailing from prestigious institutions such as Bay View Academy, Nixor O’Levels, Karachi Grammar School, and The Cedar School, represented Pakistan with exceptional skill and poise. They were among the youngest participants in the competition, which traditionally hosts college and university-level students.

Consul General Nauman Aslam hosted the triumphant Pakistani team and their trainer at the consulate, congratulating them on their outstanding achievements. During the event, he underscored the importance of cultural and educational exchanges between Pakistan and Turkey, emphasizing that such events play a crucial role in projecting a positive image of Pakistan internationally.

Established in 1453, Istanbul University’s Model United Nations competition is one of the largest public speaking platforms in Europe. It encompasses 57 disciplines and attracts approximately 10,000 students from 143 countries annually. Notable alumni of Istanbul University include former Turkish President Abdullah Gul and former Turkish Foreign Minister Taran Gunes.

This year, the IUMUN hosted over 750 students from more than 17 countries, engaging in four days of intense debates across 10 committees. The Pakistani team’s success at this prestigious event highlights the country’s potential and the bright future of its young scholars on the international stage.

The Consulate General’s statement praised the students for their hard work and dedication, noting that their participation and victory at the IUMUN have set a high standard for future participants. The statement also expressed hope for continued collaboration and exchanges between educational institutions in Pakistan and Turkey.
