The year 2020, marks the thirtieth annual commemoration of Kashmir Solidarity Day. Every year since 1990, Pakistanis mark February 5 with various rallies and protests to express solidarity with their Kashmiri brethren and call on the world to let Kashmiris decide their fate as per UN resolutions that guarantee their right to self-determination.
This year, however, the gravity of the suffering is strongly felt by the Pakistanis living on the sovereign soil. In the past, the seriousness of the Kashmir issue was not significantly impacting everyday discourse. But not anymore; the Kashmiri condition is vividly clear and no one can ignore the pain of those living the life of absolute lock down in the Indian held Kashmir.
For the past six months Kashmiris have lived the life of captivity under India. Millions residing in the disputed territory have been cut-off from the rest of the world by internet blockades, communications blackouts, and movement restrictions, in the aftermath of Article 370’s revocation which gave Jammu and Kashmir a special status.

Ever since the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill in December last year, India has been burning. Students and the general public have taken to the roads to protest against the divisive, discriminatory Act of Parliament which strips Indian Muslims of their identity.
CAB, like the approval of Article 370 is the Modi government’s vindictive, anti-Muslim, anti-secularist, and Fascist, thinly veiled Hindutva propaganda to shred the secularist Indian narrative and superimpose the Hindu nationalist ideology over Indian conscience.
Public taking to the streets is clear sign that Indians are not absent-minded bystanders, willing to let Modi commit act after act of discrimination against the Muslim residents of their country.
