Pakistani scholars from the H.E.J. Research Institute of Chemistry at the University of Karachi (UoK) have once again made the nation proud. At the prestigious American Chemical Society (ACS) Qatar Chapter and Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) Regional Middle East and Africa Conference 2024, held in Qatar, two of the institute’s Ph.D. students secured top honors among a highly competitive field of international researchers.

A spokesperson for the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), University of Karachi, announced on Thursday that four PhD students—Sanya Khursheed, Amber Bano, Muhammad Ali Minhas, and Daim Asif Raja—had been awarded the esteemed ACS Travel Grant. This grant allowed them to participate in the conference and showcase their research.
Highlighting the students’ achievements, the spokesperson remarked, “Their success has brought immense pride not only to the University of Karachi but also to Pakistan’s standing in global scientific circles.”
Dr Muhammad Imran Malik, the research supervisor for all four students, expressed his joy and commended their dedication, stating: “We are incredibly proud of our students’ achievement. Their hard work, dedication, and innovative research have earned international recognition. We wish them continued success in their future endeavors.”
Prof Dr Farzana Shaheen, Director of ICCBS, also lauded the students and their supervisor. She emphasized the institute’s legacy of producing talented researchers, adding, “This accomplishment is a testament to our commitment to fostering excellence in scientific research.”
The achievement garnered congratulations from several distinguished figures, including the Vice Chancellor of the University of Karachi, Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood Iraqi, and Prof Dr Atta-ur Rahman, Professor Emeritus and former Federal Minister for Science and Technology. Both expressed their admiration for the students’ contributions and reaffirmed their support for advancing scientific research in Pakistan.
This milestone not only highlights the University of Karachi’s pivotal role in academic research but also underscores Pakistan’s growing influence on the global scientific stage.
