China Rising As Top Destination For Pakistanis Studying Abroad

China is increasingly becoming the top destination for Pakistanis studying abroad, with the number of Pakistani students in the economic superpower gradually rising. According to the figures provided by the China’s Ministry of Education, Pakistan ranks third in terms of the number of international students enrolled in different institutions across China.

There are around 28,023 Pakistani students enrolled in China at the moment.

South Korea has the most number of students studying in China at 50,600 students, with Thailand at number two with 28,608. Pakistan’s third rank was followed by India with 23,198 students and the US with 20,996.

Around 7,034 Pakistani students studying in China are on various scholarships, the official data states. The main reason in the rise of Pakistani students seeking education in China is due to the preferential policies launched by the government of China after starting the China Pakistan Economic Corridor. Numbers show that 6,156 Pakistani students are enrolled in PhD program, 3,600 in Masters Programs, 11,100 in Bachelors, while 3,000 pupils are enrolled in short-term exchange programs in various universities in China.

There has also been a rise in learning Chinese language in Pakistan as many students who plan on studying in China are required to know Chinese. Under the Silk Road Program, the government of China offers scholarships to the students of the countries that come under its Belt and Road Initiative. Pakistani students also participate in the cultural activities organized in their universities. Students also represent Pakistan in different competitions like essay writing, music and photography under the Belt and Road Initiative in China.
