The Higher Education Department (HED) of the Government of Punjab recently held a consultative session through the Punjab Boards Committee of Chairmen (PBCC), focusing on qualitative improvements within Punjab’s Education Boards. Hosted by the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Rawalpindi, the session aimed to address “Reforms in Assessment System,” gathering stakeholders from across the province to discuss initiatives for improving transparency and rigor in assessments.
The session was attended by key officials, including Mr Muzammil Mehmood, Chairperson of the Chief Minister’s Task Force on Examination Reforms, Dr Farrukh Naveed, Secretary HED, and Mr Munib ur Rehman, Special Secretary HED. Chairpersons from various Punjab boards, including Bahawalpur, DG Khan, Gujranwala, and Sahiwal, joined senior commissioners, additional secretaries, and other prominent educationists.
Dr Farrukh Naveed emphasized that the Higher Education Department upholds transparency as its guiding principle. The department has implemented updated policies to promote meritocracy and fair practices, urging BISE chairpersons to adopt examination reforms sincerely. “We are committed to removing malpractices from our examination systems to uphold educational integrity across Punjab,” said Dr Naveed.
Mr Muzammil Mehmood, the session convener, highlighted the Chief Minister’s vision for revamping Punjab’s education system, particularly through enhanced assessment methods. He emphasized that reforming the assessment process is essential for aligning the province’s education standards with global benchmarks.
The session also welcomed representatives from prominent national and international examination bodies, including the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC), the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), Aga Khan University Examination Board (AKUEB), and Cambridge International Examination (CIE). These experts shared best practices from their own assessment models, offering insights and support to assist Punjab in implementing modern, robust assessment standards.
The gathering represents a significant step toward Punjab’s educational reform, underscoring the provincial government’s commitment to improving assessment systems and educational quality for students across the region.
